There was a huge development out of Detroit on Thursday. Gamblers and Stoolies alike will have an opportunity to visit the first-ever Barstool Sportsbook retail location. Their first retail location will launch at Greektown Casino. Greektown Casino made the announcement via Twitter and quickly went viral when they posted a picture of the construction.
Michigan casino fans will be happy to find Penn National’s launch of a retail sportsbook in the heart of Detroit. This is the first Barstool retail location so the expectation is that it will be quite extravagant. Retail sportsbook locations are crucial to the state as there is still no mobile gambling available. Barstool will want to quickly open their location so they can capitalize on NFL gambling which is easily the most bet on sport in America.
Currently, Greektown Casino has not set an official open date for the permanent location. It appears that this has been a work in progress for some time and that it could be ready sooner rather than later.
Greektown Casino continues to rebrand their sportsbook to take advantage of Barstool Sports’ marketing advantages. Their offerings prior to the redesign are pretty impressive. Throughout the casino, there are four live wagering windows and 40 self-service betting kiosks throughout the casino. There is also Trappers Bar nearby on the upper level of the casino.
Will The Barstool Sportsbook App Launch In Michigan?
This is most certainly a step in the right direction. The Barstool Sportsbook retail location clearly shows a partnership between Greektown Casino. Penn National Inc. followers will know that Greektown Casino was purchased by Penn National in May of 2019. Barstool Sportsbook’s app has done extremely well in Pennsylvania. The User Experience is fantastic and has been heralded for ease of use. There tons of fun betting options and even a strong sign-on bonus. Since its release in Pennylslvania, Barstool Sportsbook’s app broke the DraftKings download record according to Bloomberg.
As we covered during Michigan Gaming Control Board’s meeting last week, there is still no set date for mobile sports betting. That meeting went by with a hopeful launch date of late November. If the rules put forth by the MGCB require further review, we could be looking at early 2021 for a mobile sports betting launch.
Barstool Sportsbook’s mobile launch is contingent on when mobile gambling is legal in the state. Barstool Sportsbook will quickly submit their application and gain approval thanks to their relationship with Penn National.
Best case scenario: Late November.
Worst case scenario: Early 2021.
