Michigan State will try to return to its winning ways at home when the Michigan Wolverines visit East Lansing Saturday afternoon. The Spartans last played at home in the Breslin Center on Jan. 15 and lost to Northwestern. It was their first home loss of the season. It was also the first time Michigan State was favored and lost this season.
Most Michigan sportsbooks have the Spartans listed as 4.5–point favorites against a Wolverines team that is 2-4 on the road and has not won in East Lansing since 2018.

Michigan Wolverines (10-7 SU, 7-10 ATS)
It has been an up and down season for the Wolverines. However, they will enter Saturday’s game playing some of their best basketball of the season. With a 72-70 win over Northwestern Wednesday night, Michigan extended a win-streak to three games for the first time this season.
If their star players can bring their ‘A’ games, they will have a shot at making it four in a row.
Hunter Dickinson had nine points against the Wildcats but had scored in double figures for eight straight and had 20+ in his previous three. Caleb Houstan helped pick up the slack with 18 points, his third consecutive game in double digits. Devante Jones chipped in 15, and Eli Brooks had 12.
Michigan has been shooting well as a team, hitting 50+ percent of its shots during the win streak. However, it will not be easy to repeat that feat against the Spartans. Michigan State ranks 24th in the nation in field goal percentage defense this season (39.4%).

Michigan State Spartans (15-4 SU, 11-8 ATS)
Had the game back on Jan. 8 not been canceled, the Spartans appeared poised to get a big win in Ann Arbor. Michigan State was riding an eight-game winning streak while Michigan had lost its last two and was struggling to find an identity.
Since then, the Spartans have been up and down. Michigan State had a two-point win over Minnesota, followed by a two-point home loss to Northwestern. It followed that game with an 86-74 point victory over then-No. 8 Wisconsin on the road but then dropped its fourth game of the season on Tuesday to No. 24 Illinois, 56-55.
Silly mistakes and an apparent lack of focus doomed the Spartans against an Illinois team that was without two of its best players. Michigan State deserves credit for bouncing back and making the game competitive, but an excellent second half was wasted because the first half was so poor. The Spartans had their worst half in terms of offensive output and trailed 34-20 at halftime.
Michigan is playing well enough to take advantage of the Spartans if they come out flat again. If the Wolverines play as well as they have recently, one good half from Michigan State will not be enough to win the game.

Betting Analysis
Michigan State has won five of the last seven against Michigan and five of the last six on its home court. On paper, the Spartans have the better team this season, but what matters is who is playing better basketball right now. The answer to that question is easy — Michigan. However, a rivalry game could be just what the Spartans need to regain their focus as long as emotions don’t run too high.
