FireKeepers Casino Hotel Online Gambling
Michigan was working to legalize mobile sports betting and gambling since 2015, but the fruits of that labor weren’t seen until December 2019. The first retail sportsbooks officially launched in March 2020, with online sportsbooks and online casinos following in late January 2021.
Online betting is now on offer from FireKeepers Casino Hotel. The casino partnered with Scientific Games Corporation to bring online gambling and sports betting to those who are Michigan residents. Through this partnership, the casino offers both iGaming and sports betting both online and offline.
The FireKeepers online casino and sports betting app officially went live in July 2021.
Scientific Games powers the retail sportsbook on the FireKeepers property, which was announced in June 2020. The retail sportsbook opened in 2020, making it the first tribal casino in Michigan to operate its own retail sportsbook.
FireKeepers Casino Hotel Casino History
Construction on the FireKeepers Casino Hotel first began in May 2008, while the casino opened for business to the general public in 2009. The hotel and casino were developed by Gaming Entertainment Michigan (GEM), which is a joint venture between real estate developer Robert Mathewson and gaming operator Full House Resorts.
When the casino opened, GEM signed an agreement that would offer them management of the casino through the date of 2016. As a result of their management, 26% of the net income from the casino was theirs. However, the Nottawaseppi Huron Band decided to move forward with buying out the agreement four years early for $97.5 million and took over management in May 2012.
When the tribe took over ownership and management of FireKeepers Casino Hotel, they also decided to expand the property. The initiative consisted of an eight-story resort hotel and an expanded bingo room. During the construction process, the tribe committed to spending locally by awarding contracts worth more than $25 million to the State of Michigan.
The casino opened its expansion in December 2012, which showcases a 243 room hotel with a full-service restaurant called Smoke ‘N Fire, an indoor pool, an exercise facility, and a business center. An event center was also introduced with seating for up to 2,000.
After operating for two years under the tribe, the hotel was named a Four Diamond Hotel, something that happened again in 2018. In 2016, the casino renovated its Café 24/7 restaurant and announced another expansion to include a gas station and convenience store. Dacey’s Taphouse also opened in December of that year to offer craft beer and bar food.
In 2017, the Fire Hub was launched as a community reinvestment project to create a downtown restaurant with a food pantry. The project also involves using tribal lands to grow and farm vegetables to provide a free salad bar for students located in the area.
FireKeepers Casino became the first tribal property to launch a live sportsbook in June 2020. Dacey’s Sportsbook marks the first foray into sports betting for FireKeepers Casino, with an online sports betting platform on the way. Both the retail and online sportsbooks operate in partnership with gaming technology brand Scientific Games.
