Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is welcoming a new retail sportsbook in a grand opening slated for Friday, Sept. 25. BetAmerica’s retail sportsbook will celebrate its launch at Island Resort & Casino.
Though the sportsbook has been accepting bets for a few weeks now, the grand opening will serve as a celebration of the launch. It will take place at T. McC’s sports bar within the Island Casino and include prize drawings and betting specials.

BetAmerica’s Island Casino sportsbook soft-launched on Sept. 10 and began accepting bets. The kickoff event recognizes the sportsbook’s launch in the casino’s T. McC’s sports bar. The sportsbook features a nine screen video wall plus 30 screens throughout the area. Bettors can also enjoy selections from a full food and drink menu.
Avid sports bettors who wish to play casino games can have the best of both worlds by using one of 14 strategically placed betting kiosks on the property.
Online Sports Betting In Michigan
Retail sportsbooks have continued to pop up in Michigan, and BetAmerica is just the latest in a long line of launches in the state. Meanwhile, Michigan is moving forward with online sports betting regulations, and a meeting slated for Sept. 23 signals that digital sportsbooks getting closer than ever.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board is holding a virtual public hearing during which Michiganders can voice their opinions on the latest rules and regulations set forth by the Board. Anyone can attend, and the meeting is expected to last three hours.
To many, the mark of progress toward online sports betting in Michigan will be a breath of fresh air. The state legalized online sportsbooks, online casinos, and Daily Fantasy Sports. But the regulations surrounding these activities have yet to be solidified, and the process has moved slowly. It’s unclear how long Michiganders still need to wait before they can place bets online, but this meeting is a good sign.
Currently, the expected launch date for Michigan’s online sportsbooks and casinos is the first half of 2021, though officials have been pushing to accelerate that timetable. Wednesday’s meeting will hopefully shed some light on the Wolverine State’s near-term plans.
